Effective date: October 8, 2026

Coastal Housing Resources Corp., which operates as Coastal Housing Resources ("we", "us", "our"), is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in San Luis Obispo County, California, that provides furniture and household items to people moving into stable housing. This policy explains what personal information we collect through www.coastalhousingresources.com and our programs, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Information we collect

Information you give us. We collect what you choose to share when you:

  • Send a message through our contact form, by email, by phone or by text: your name, contact details and the content of your message.
  • Make a financial donation: your name, email address, billing address, donation amount and date. Card and bank details go directly to our payment processor. We do not see or store full card numbers.
  • Offer furniture or household items: your name, contact details, pickup address and a description of the items.
  • Ask for assistance or are referred to us by a partner agency: your name, contact details, delivery address, household size and the items you need.
  • Volunteer or partner with us: your name, contact details, availability and any organization you represent.

Information collected automatically. Our website host, Squarespace, records standard technical data when you visit, such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, and the site that referred you. This is gathered through cookies and similar technologies, described below.

Information from others. Social service agencies, churches and other referral partners may share the details we need to arrange a furniture delivery for someone they serve.

How we use information

We use personal information to:

  • Respond to questions and requests.
  • Process donations and send receipts and acknowledgments for tax purposes.
  • Schedule furniture pickups, warehouse visits and deliveries.
  • Match available furniture to the households we serve.
  • Coordinate volunteers and partner organizations.
  • Send occasional updates about our work, if you have asked to receive them. Every email update includes a way to unsubscribe.
  • Understand how the website is used so we can improve it.
  • Keep required financial records, meet legal obligations, and protect against fraud or misuse.

If you call or text us, we use your number only to reply to you, and we do not send marketing text messages. We do not use personal information for automated decisions about who receives assistance.

How we share information

We do not sell, rent or trade personal information, and we do not share donor lists with other organizations. We share information only in these situations:

  • Service providers. Companies that help us operate, such as Squarespace (website hosting, forms and donations), our payment processor, and our email provider. They may use the information only to provide those services.
  • Program partners. With your knowledge, we share the details needed to complete a pickup or delivery with the referring agency or the volunteers carrying it out.
  • Legal reasons. When required by law, court order or government request, or when needed to protect the safety or rights of our clients, volunteers, staff or the public.

We treat information about the people we serve as confidential. We publish a client's name, photo or story only with that person's written consent.

Cookies and analytics

Our website uses cookies that Squarespace sets to run the site, keep it secure and measure visits. We may also use Google Analytics to see overall traffic patterns. These tools report aggregated statistics and do not tell us who you are.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, although some features may not.

Our website does not currently respond to browser "Do Not Track" signals. We do not use advertising cookies or share your browsing activity with advertisers.

Your choices

How long we keep information

We keep donation records for seven years, a common record-keeping period for nonprofits. We keep contact, pickup and delivery records for as long as needed to run our programs, then delete or anonymize them.

Security

We limit access to personal information to the board members, staff and volunteers who need it, and we rely on service providers that encrypt data in transit. No website or storage system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children

Our website is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information online from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Our website may link to sites we do not operate. Their privacy practices are their own, and we encourage you to read their policies.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page and change the effective date above.
